Prevention and Education
The role of the Independent Commissioner Against Corruption (ICAC) in not limited to identifying and investigating corruption, misconduct and maladministration. The Independent Commissioner Against Corruption Act 2012 (ICAC Act) recognises the importance of preventing or minimising conduct of this nature.
Through education programs and resources targeted towards public officers, public authorities, inquiry agencies and the general public, the Commissioner aims to raise awareness of ICAC’s role and functions, and in doing so act as a deterrent.
ICAC will develop and offer programs and resources with a focus on good governance, risk management, ethics and culture.
The Act also gives the Commissioner the power to evaluate the practices, policies and procedures of inquiry agencies and public authorities, with a view to advancing comprehensive and effective systems for preventing or minimising corruption, misconduct and maladministration.
