2018-19 ICAC / OPI Annual Report Tabled
The 2018-2019 Annual Report of the Independent Commissioner Against Corruption (ICAC) and the Office for Public Integrity (OPI) was tabled in parliament today.
The sixth Annual Report from Commissioner Lander shows the OPI received 1,229 complaints and reports under the ICAC Act during the reporting period, a 9% increase on the previous year.
Almost 40% of complaints and reports concerned inappropriate conduct, workplace bullying, harassment, and failure to comply with policy or procedure.
More than 60% of complaints and reports related to conduct and practices in State Government and almost 20% related to conduct and practices in Local Government.
The report shows that the Commissioner commenced 36 new corruption investigations during the period and referred a further 76 matters to South Australia Police (SA Police) for investigation.
2018-2019 also saw the first full year of operation of the Police Complaints and Discipline Act 2016. The OPI received or registered 2,039 complaints and reports about SA Police during the reporting period. A total of 41% of these complaints and reports related to inappropriate conduct, workplace bullying, harassment, and failure to comply with policy or procedure.
This year's Annual Report does not include the usual update and commentary from the Commissioner about conduct and practices in public administration. "I have determined to provide this information by way of a separate report, which I intend to publish twice yearly", said Commissioner Lander. That report will be published tomorrow morning.
