Review of Legislative Schemes

Whilst giving evidence before the Parliamentary Crime and Public Integrity Policy Committee in October 2014, the Hon. Bruce Lander QC announced the following:

that at the request of the Attorney General he would conduct a review into the legislative scheme governing the oversight and management of complaints about police;
that he would conduct a review of the legislative scheme governing the oversight and management of complaints and reports about public administration in South Australia, with a particular focus on whether or not this process should be consolidated in a single office; and
that he would exercise powers given to him under section 40 of the Independent Commissioner Against Corruption Act 2012 (ICAC Act) to conduct an evaluation of the practices, policies and procedures of the Police Ombudsman.

The Commissioner also announced that he would exercise powers given to him under section 7(5) of the ICAC Act and conduct these reviews and evaluations by way of a public inquiry.

In February 2015 Commissioner Lander released a discussion paper outlining the relevant issues and calling for written submissions. Submissions have now closed and the public hearings have been scheduled. Presentations at the public hearings will be by invitation only.

The media and public are welcome to attend to the capacity of the room.
