Evaluation of the Department for Correctional Services recommenced
Statement by Mr Michael Riches Deputy Independent Commissioner Against Corruption
On 3 February 2020 I announced the commencement of an evaluation of the practices, policies and procedures of the Department for Correctional Services (the Department).
Many evaluation activities were suspended in March 2020 given restrictions imposed as a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic.
With restrictions now easing those activities can gradually recommence. A survey of correctional services staff, together with staff working in the Adelaide Remand Centre and the Mount Gambier Prison, will be released this week.
I now extend a further invitation to members of the public or interested parties to make a written submission relevant to the scope of the evaluation.
The scope of the evaluation is as follows:
- The extent to which the Department’s governance framework adequately guards against the risks of corruption, misconduct and maladministration.
- The Department’s practices, policies and procedures in respect of human resource management and whether those practices, policies and procedures efficiently manage human resources and control the risks of corruption, misconduct and maladministration.
- The Department’s practices, policies and procedures in respect of information management and whether those practices, policies and procedures ensure the accuracy and integrity of information whilst protecting the misuse of information.
- The unique integrity risks associated with a custodial environment and whether the Department’s practices, policies and procedures adequately safeguard against those risks.
Written submissions will be received until 5.00 pm on 10 July 2020 and can be sent via email to firstname.lastname@example.org or by post to GPO Box 11066 Adelaide SA 5001.
