Integrity State 2023/2024
29 October 2024
Today the Commission’s report Integrity State 2023/2024 was tabled in Parliament.
The report provides an overview of corruption prevention recommendations made to public authorities as a result of corruption investigations undertaken during the 2023/24 financial year.
Helping agencies understand where they are vulnerable to corruption is an important part of the Commission’s work. Like previous Integrity State reports, the 2023/2024 report identifies poorly managed conflicts of interests as an ongoing corruption risk for public authorities. It specifically highlights the dangers posed by conflicts of interests in the management of Human Resources.
Acting Commissioner Ben Broyd added, “Another area of vulnerability relates to inadequate guidance and training for public officers on how to undertake their duties effectively and with integrity. In the absence of clear guidance, standards can slip, and inappropriate conduct can occur”.
The Acting Commissioner stressed, “all public authorities must ensure their staff have access to clear and up to date information about how to perform their duties ethically and effectively”.
